For a family of 4, the housewife grinds with the hand mill 5-6 hrs a day. That was a drudgery beyond compare. We’re much better off today just turning the hand mill a bit and being happy that the flour doesn’t have to be fine!

“LEBENS.KÖRNER – Grain and Bread in the Ancient Orient”.

Without cultivation of cereal grasses no bread. Without bread, there would be no settlement and city formation with coexistence based on the division of labor. Bread can therefore be considered the cultural turbo of human history.

The exhibition is divided into three major sections: cultivation of grain, invention of bread baking in Egypt, bread stories of the Bible.
